History
Founded in 1970, Carver's mission is to provide certificates, short-term educational programs, and associate degrees to secondary and adult students in the Kanawha Valley. Carver has twice been recognized as a WV School of Excellence and as a "Best School in the Nation" by REDBOOK magazine. It was the first vocational school in the state of WV. The faculty at Carver are certified by the West Virginia State Department of Education and possess relevant professional experience in their teaching disciplines. Carver is operated by Kanawha County Schools. Our Programs are currently accredited by the Council on Occupational Education and approved by the WV Department of Education and the Kanawha County Board of Education. George Washington Carver Carver Career and Technical Education Center was named in honor of George Washington Carver.
Mr. Carver was born into slavery and went on to
become a botanist and one of the most prominent scientists and inventors of his time. As head of the Tuskegee Institute's agricultural department, his work
included groundbreaking research on plant biology and farming. His advancements included hundreds of new uses for crops such as peanuts, sweet
potatoes, soybeans, and pecans.
