Tonight, two of our soon-to-be graduates, Amy and Zach, represented Carver Culinary Arts at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center for their quarterly Culinary Showcase.
I chose these two for a reason. Their skills, passion, and drive for what’s next in this industry are exactly what we want to highlight.
✨ Amy wowed guests with a Tomato & Grilled Peach Salad layered with whipped ricotta, basil pesto, mint hot honey breadcrumbs, and crispy prosciutto.
✨ Zach served up a Coconut-Corn Polenta Cake topped with pan-seared shrimp, pickled corn relish, and a sweet chili aioli.
We love partnering with the Coliseum on these events. They not only shine a light on our students’ talent, but they also build excitement for our big annual Culinary Showcase in October, which helps raise money for our scholarship fund. That fund changes lives by helping more students join our program and chase their culinary dreams.
Proud is an understatement tonight. 🍽️🔥

Chef Tommy Grant and his student Will Ellis Cooked Up Learning at the SAIL Conference in Charleston, West Virginia on July 29th. They demonstrated how you could turn the Kitchen into a classroom with hands-on activities that enhance learning and engagement across subjects. The session explored ways to integrate math, science, reading, and cultural studies into delicious, engaging lessons that make concepts stick- one recipe at a time. They demonstrated how to make Spatzle with Roasted Red Pepper Coulis and offered a tasting for the attendees.

Chef Gum posted: ✨ I’m still in shock, but the good kind. ✨
Today, our Culinary Arts Scholarship Fund received a $10,000 donation from the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center, powered by Sodexo Live!
This partnership means more than words can really express. This funding will directly support several future students in our program, helping to cover costs and ease financial burdens so they can focus on learning, creating, and growing into the chefs our industry needs.
It’s a powerful thing when industry leaders recognize the value of skilled, trained, and educated professionals. The fact that they not only see that value but are willing to invest in it? That’s next level. I’m beyond grateful.
We’re looking forward to continuing our collaboration with the Coliseum and showcasing our students’ talents at events throughout the year, including our big Culinary Showcase Dinner in October, where we’ll highlight both student and industry talent from across the Kanawha Valley.
The future is bright, and this support makes it even brighter. Thank you, Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center, for believing in us.

Massage Therapy students from Carver Career and Technical Education Center hit it out of the park with the Charleston Dirty Birds! ⚾💆‍♀️💆‍♂️ They had the opportunity to work with 4 staff members and 24 athletes—giving our students some real-deal, hands-on experience in sports massage. From pre-game prep to post-game recovery (and even injury therapy!), they learned a ton and had a blast doing it! 🙌🎓💪 Huge thanks to the Dirty Birds for letting us be part of your game day routine. 🐤💙✨
