🥇 Grand Champions! 🥇
Congratulations to Carver Career Center’s Culinary Arts team for taking home Best Dish and Grand Champion honors at the West Virginia Jr. Cast Iron Cook-Off in Morgantown!

Chef Grant and Principal Lisa Dorsey joined students Lola Zamora, Amazing Tognoli, and Will Ellis in the kitchen as they impressed the judges with their winning menu — feta and spinach meatballs over rustic fall creamy orzo, topped with tomato coulis and micro-greens, and a delicious apple tart with meringue for dessert. 🍎

🤗 Are there any leftovers — asking for a friend!?

Carver is holding a Holiday Food Drive from November 3rd through December 18th, organized and led by the Student Ambassadors from the Carpentry program.
The drive is split into two parts benefiting different local charities:
November 3 - November 20: Donations will go to Living Bread Outreach, located on Campbells Creek.
December 1 - December 18: Donations will be given to the Riverside Food Pantry.
Please help us make this a success! Every Friday, ask your students to bring their donated items to the Carpentry shop. The Carpentry students are constructing wooden pallets to display the collected goods and will be documenting the drive's progress along the way.

Watch Our New George goes to Carver Video in our NEWS Section

The CTE Multimedia Program, Visionary Video, at Carver Career Center undertook an imaginative project to create a video featuring their mascot, George the Skeleton, exploring different career paths offered at the center. The project provided students with valuable hands-on experience in video production, from initial concept to final editing. Students collaborated in teams to develop a cohesive storyline, scripting George's journey as he tried his hand at various programs across the campus. They then moved into the production phase, capturing footage of George exploring the different skills and opportunities Carver provides. Videographers included: Charlie Abbott, Nick Ardman, Conner Gray, Kelleigh Gresham, Emma Hackworth, Jacobi Hamrick, Callie Holbrook, Xander Hopkins, Izabella Jones, Liam Knapp, James Perkins, Nevaeh Sanford, George Sawyer, Andrew Singleton, Hollie Whitmore. The final stage of editing was expertly handled by students Conner Gray and George Sawyer, who pieced together the footage to tell George's career-finding adventure.

💙 Many of our schools operate food pantries to help students and families when extra support is needed. With more families seeking assistance right now, several schools are starting new pantries to meet the growing demand — and schools with existing pantries are continuing to accept donations.

If you’d like to help, please contact your local school—or the school you wish to support—to ask what items are most needed and where donations can be dropped off. Thank you, Kanawha County, for always supporting students. 💛

🌟 Honoring Service, Supporting Students. 🇺🇸

In 2021—on Pearl Harbor Day—the West Virginia Department of Education and Common Ground Partners proudly recognized the first class of Purple Star Schools and Districts across the Mountain State. What began with 130 schools and 3 districts has now grown to 315 schools and 17 districts dedicated to supporting military-connected students and families. 💜

Kanawha County Schools is honored to be among them as a Purple Star District, continuing our commitment to helping students thrive—no matter where their family’s service takes them.

The Purple Star Award is one of many ways the Common Ground Partnership helps make West Virginia one of the best places in the nation to live, work, and raise a family. 🌄
