Hospitality and Tourism

The one-year Hospitality and Tourism course focuses on the management, marketing, and operations of event planning and design. The course will focus on “hands-on” and academic activities geared toward management opportunities and skills.

Students receive the following certificates when they complete this program: OSHA 10, CareerSafe Interview Skills, CareerSafe Communication Skills, West Virginia Welcome, and Hospitality & Tourism.

The average salaries directly out of high school with a program certificate range from $15,000 to $35,000 per year.  Some positions students may obtain are Entry level Event Management, Front desk attendant, Hotel Concierge, Guest Services, and Event/Party planner. 

If students decide to further their education, the average salaries available to them are $32,000 to $85,000 per year. Some positions students may obtain are Event Manager, Social Catering Manager, Exhibition/Sponsorship Coordinator, Owner/Operator of Event Planning business, and Wedding Planner.

This program prepares students for college and/or industry by teaching them essential soft skills and good work ethic; perfecting organizational and time-management skills; providing them with good people skills; conflict resolution abilities and interpersonal skills; creativity; and hands-on decorating skills.

Students who graduate from this program can: easily transition into an entry-level job in many industries; further their education and training while still working; have a flexible schedule, and travel to fun and exciting places while meeting new people.

This program allows the student employees to explore their creative side, participate in in-school and out of school events, meet new people, and travel to places they may have never been before. We think outside the box and every day is a fun and exciting new adventure!
